This one’s completely free if you own a good-quality sheer curtain.

Mount your curtain rod as close to the ceiling as possible.

Also, extend it several inches from the window frame on each side.

Your curtains should just kiss the floor, and the result will be a chef’s kiss.

3. Stick to Light, Neutral Wall Colours

Honestly, whites, warm creams, pale greiges, and soft sage greens are my go-to colors for small spaces.

I truly believe that space under your bed is prime real estate.

I love using flat storage boxes on wheels that perfectly fit under my bed.

Perfect option to store out-of-season clothes, extra bedding, and shoes.

One of the hacks is if your bed sits too low, grab a set of bed risers, and it will give you
vertical clearance. 

10. Ottoman with Hidden Storage

I can’t stress this enough: scale matters more than style.

Measure carefully, use painter’s tape on the floor to visualise footprints before you buy, and choose pieces that fit the room.

20. Choose Sofas with Raised Legs

Furniture that sits directly on the floor creates a heavy, closed-off feel.

Make sure to choose sofas, armchairs, and bed frames with visible legs that allow light to flow underneath.

It’s a subtle thing that makes a big difference.

Before buying anything new, check your local op shops, Facebook Marketplace, and Gumtree. 

I’ve found solid timber bookshelves, mid-century side tables, and even a great sofa through secondhand shopping.
