This post is all about small bedroom decorating ideas.
I’ve lived in small bedrooms most of my adult life (BTW, now I’m in my 30s and married).
Studio apartments, first rentals, spare rooms that were clearly never meant to be bedrooms.
And for a long time, I treated the size as a problem I just had to live with.
Eventually, I stopped fighting it and started actually thinking about it.
The small bedroom ideas I’m sharing here aren’t generic tips scraped from a design textbook.
They’re things I’ve tried, things I’ve seen work in real rooms, and a few clever tricks I wish I’d known sooner.

2. Go Vertical With Shelving
As we all know, when floor space is limited, walls become your best friend.
Floating shelves above a desk, beside the bed, or stacked all the way up near the ceiling give you storage without taking up any footprint.
I once put a narrow floor-to-ceiling bookshelf in a bedroom corner, and it looked intentional and gave so much storage in such a small amount of floor space.
3. Use a Lighter Color Palette
I know this one sounds obvious, but it genuinely works.
This is my advice from years of experience: a fresh coat of soft white, warm white, or cream reflects more light and makes the room feel less boxed-in.
But go for white..white..white and white (all kinds of whites) for walls, except the accent wall.
That said, it doesn’t have to be a plain white box. I’ve had really good results with warm off-whites and muted sage greens.

Hang your curtain rod close to the ceiling (not just above the window frame) and extend it several inches past the window on each side.

Layered lighting makes rooms feel more interesting and less cramped.

31. Get the Room Proportions Right

In a small bedroom, everything should be roughly the right size for the room.
